The European PSD2 directive delimits the scope of the Account Information Service to payment accounts only. The following is the definition of the ‘Account Information Service’ according to Legislative Decree 11/2010 (Art. 1.1(b-ter)): ‘an online service that provides information relating to one or more payment accounts held by the payment service user with another payment service provider or with more than one payment service provider’. Furthermore, the European Central Bank clarified the characteristics of the payment account and the accessibility of credit lines. A payment account is defined as an account held in the name of one or more users used for the execution of payment transactions which enables the sending and receiving of funds to and from third parties. The peculiarities and limitations of the payment account define its inclusion in or exclusion from the PSD2 channel.
